Apart of Enriching Life is eating healthy. Why eating healthy is so important besides the obvious to nourish ourselves, is the health benefits of our food. A lot of our foods are called Superfoods. We all here this word but most of the time we ask "what is so super"?. This means our food has the means to heal ourselves. Antioxidants and Phytochemicals are the little extras our foods give us, known as Nutraceuticals. The word Nutraceuticals makes total sense. For example: Antioxidants Vit C & Vit E and Beta-Carotene help to protect against the destructive nature of free radicals. These vitamins are theorized to be protective against cancer, heart disease and aging. For Phytochemicals examples are Allium ( garlic) known to help when you have the flu & Capsaicin (hot peppers) known to be a anti-inflammatory. Phytochemicals ( which are plant chemicals ) are also theorized to have many health benefits. Consuming natural plant foods rather than supplements, is the best way to obtain these purported nutraceuticals. To help ensure that you obtain a wide variety of these antioxidants and phytocheimcals in your diet, eating foods of many different colors is one strategy.
