                    Vitamins-The Organic Regulator.Vitamins are complex organic compounds that function in the body in a variety of ways. Some act as coenzymes to help regulate metabolic processes; others are antioxidants that protect cell membranes; and one is even classified as a hormone ( Vit D ). Vitamins do not contain energy per se, such as Calories, but they do help regulate energy  in the body.
They are a diverse class of Thirteen known specific nutrients that are involved in almost every metabolic process in the human body. We need only minute amounts of vitamins in our daily diet, so they are classified as micronutrients. Vitamins are either water soluble or fat soluble. Nine are water soluble vitamins, which  are eight vitamin B's & Vitamin C ( absorbic acid ). Four are fat soluble which are, vitamin A,D,E & K.

Minerals- The Inorganic Regulators.
Minerals perform two of the three major functions of nutrients in food, including the formation of several body tissues and the regulation of numerous physiological processes. Minerals do not contain energy-just like vitamins- but they do help regulate energy processes in the body.
Twenty Five elements appear to be essential for normal physiological functioning. They are also classified as a micronutrient.

Know your RDA's for these essential nutrients. To little will cause a deficiency and to much in some will be toxic. Each life stage has it's own set of RDA's.
